CARES Panel 4 is open! Apply for funding by 25 February
The Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES), managed by Local Energy Scotland, is now open for applications until 25 February.
Specialist support and bespoke funding packages are available for communities and rural businesses looking to install renewable generation and get local energy projects up and running. If you’ve got a project idea, please get in touch to discuss how we can work together to help you progress your project.
Our Development Officers are spread across the country to provide hands on support through each step of the process, so get in touch with your local contact soon. You’ll find full information and guidance about applying to CARES funding here, and we encourage groups thinking of applying to fill in a project proposal form first to get things started.
We’ve already provided funding to a number of exciting projects, including Comrie Croft which received funding towards the generation of renewable electricity from solar PV panels, combined with battery storage. This allows the business to use the stored power for electric car charging points and on-site in its shop and café.
Managing Director Andrew Donaldson said, “Getting assistance from CARES was a genuine pleasure – minimal bureaucracy, helpful advice, and a focus on a successful end result.” Andrew is now pleased to report an impressive reduction in electricity use and a saving of £13,500 a year in electricity bills.
There’s plenty of scope for renewable energy generation in towns and cities too. CARES can support communities and public sector organisations looking to install renewables on buildings, which can help provide a reliable and sustainable energy source and reduce bills for these organisations.
It is a very exciting time to get involved in Scotland’s low carbon energy transition. Scotland is showing world leadership in our ambition of 1GW of locally owned generation by 2020, and we’ve already reached nearly 70% of that target. Get in touch today to chat through your proposal and find out how we can support you to make the most of renewable energy.
