Area: Shetland
To investigate the potential to utilise some, or all of the curtailed energy from the planned wind farm in the production of sea-salt.
It is anticipated that the proposed 4.5MW wind turbine to be developed by North Yell Development Council at Garth Farm will be subject to curtailment due to grid constraint.
The study investigates the feasibility of using the curtailed energy to produce sea salt. It compares the predicted generation and level of curtailment and implications on the number and size of boilers required.
