Local energy - a modern approach to sourcing and generating renewable energy

Renewable energy is vital for a low-carbon future. Unlike traditional energy, renewable energy generation lets many people be involved - for the benefit of themselves and their communities.

Local energy grows local economies and re-generates communities, delivers financial benefits to the community and its stakeholders and creates jobs. It can also help alleviate fuel poverty and increase community empowerment.

If you're thinking of developing a local energy project, there's a lot to consider. There's a wide range of models, technologies and processes, and no two projects are the same.

How can we help?

We're Scotland's one-stop-shop for all your local energy needs.  We support you at every stage - from initial planning, through development and funding applications, right up to and beyond the launch.

We'll give you free and impartial advice. We also administer the Scottish Government's Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES), which offers grants and loans to support local energy development across Scotland. We can also point you in the direction of other useful funding and support.
